Captain William Teglia's Purple lost their only game of the regular season to Brown back in Week One. They lost their only playoff game to Brown in Week Three. The common asterisk in those Brown wins...no Owen Perks. Perks' return proved the key, as his two goals in a 3-1 game one win, and his goal and FOUR assists in the encore finally wiped and flushed Captain Bryan Ossa's 'Dookey Kong'. CONGRATULATIONS to Captain Teglia and Purple, and a big shoutout to my 'Dookey Kong' mates for an amazing run from a 'find a way' seven seed...

John Kushneryk very nearly stole a spot in the Final for Captain Eli Schonbrun's Blue, stopping 21/21 Neon shots to push Blue on to a meeting with Purple. JK was even busier, and nearly as perfect (33/35) in the encore, but Captain William Teglia's OT strike proved that being an evil, sneering, moustache-twirling villain pays when and where it counts. The Summer League 2026 Final is now set, with 'Willuigis' looking to FINALLY stomp out their nemesis nuisance, Captain Bryan Ossa's 'Dookey Kong'.

It's fairly rare for a seven seed to make much noise in the SDFHL playoffs, but Captain Bryan Ossa's 'Dookey Kong' picked the perfect time to peak, running their winning streak to four, including three straight playoff wins over the two, three, and one seeds to advance to the Summer League Final.

Captain Lena Amelang's 'Kirby Enthusiasm' were wounded ducks after a stunning 3-2 loss to seventh-seeded Brown in their first playoff outing, and Captain Zach Siemer's 'Puck Hunt' delivered the final fatal blow to Pink's playoff migration with Old Man Linke's true and timely trigger pull with 0:01 to play.

Captain Rob Gaudio's 'Red Joshi' mounted a stirring late comeback to snatch a win over Grey in the Week Nine nightcap and Summer League 2026 regular season finale, but unfortunately for Red, an equally inspired Green 1-Up in the early game meant GAME OVER before their game even began. The playoff field is now set, with the first level set to start this Sunday...

So, you are kicking Bowser's ass in one of the myriad Mario installments, and after doing sufficient damage, you think the battle is over...but he just gets angrier, breaks out more moves, and throws more chaos at you. Even when you FINALLY vanquish him...he is just back and badder than ever in the next iteration. Captain Bao Nguyen's (NC-17) 'Getting Piped By Bao-Ser' namesake incarnation seem to be following in their favorite fanged foe's footsteps, having saved seven giant fireballs for Brown in a HUGE 7-3 win, and turning a seven week struggle that looked to be leading to a regular season 'GAME OVER' into the very real possibility of an extra life...

Captain Byran Ossa's 'Dookey Kong' were on the cut line ropes after a three game slide and a disappointing tie, but a one-two-three-four-five punch from Josh Wirt was the main event in an 8-5 slugfest decision over Red to bring them back to the playoff pack with the final bell just two rounds away...

Our Week Six Sunday fell on Fathers Day, and also the official first day of summer. In keeping with those two occasions, Captain Rob Gaudio's 'Red Joshi' finally sired their first win of the summer season, upsetting a very strong Blue side 4-3 to keep jump back above the cut line and keep their playoff hopes simmering.

Captain William Teglia's 'Willuigis' are doing their Nintendo namesake proud and turning L's upside down. Their latest W also handed a (right-side-up) L to the only remaining undefeated team in the league in Captain Eli Schonbrun's Blue. The win not only has them at the top of the standings at 4-1-0, but also makes them the first Summer League team to clinch a playoff spot.

If you aren't familiar with the namesake for Captain Lena Amelang's 'Kirby Enthusiasm', this cute little pink blob uses tremendous sucking power to inhale enemies (often inheriting any special powers they may possess). True to namesake form, after dropping their season opener to the only remaining undefeated team in the league (Blue), Pink have sucked up three straight wins, blowing through their first four games at a 3-1-0 pace that has them tickled to be toward the top of the table.

Captain Eli Schonbrun's 'Blue Schelbies' have zoomed to the front of the pack in true namesake fashion. A deep, talented lineup has them sharing top honors with Captain Zach Siemer's Grey as we pass through turn one of the Summer League 2026 course...

With two weeks of the Summer 2026 season in the books, all nine teams have now played at least one game. The table has proven quite level thus far, with all but two teams having secured a win. In spite of failing on the shirt-color-team-name association tradition, and also failing to recognize that our league uses a ball, Captain Zach Siemer's 'Puck Hunt' are the first team to two wins, powered by a double barrel hat trick start from (deliciously appropriately) Kalen Hunter.

The Summer League 2026 season got underway with eight new players risking their 'lives' against all manner of foe and folly. The good news for the four teams that failed to power up is that it is far from 'game over'. Eight levels of play remain, and all players still have plenty of lives to spare. Don't quote me on this, but the nerd word is that there are secret bonus levels at the end of the game, should you make it that far...

Captain Nick Meglich managed to keep a BIG secret from everyone, including his own teammates (!)...there would be no Alex Giummo in the lineup for Sand's final swing at defeating rival Black. The result of this twist was not the convincing win for Black that you might expect, but rather a tooth and nail nailbiter that dripped into OT. Kerri Sevenbergen had another 'twist' in store in extra time, tucking home her first goal of the season to close the final chapter in Black's season-long storybook Cup pursuit...

If you're an uncultured donk like me, you won't recognize the above screenshot from the cinematic masterpiece, 'Dora And The Lost City Of Gold'. The tie-in, you ask...Captain Josh Wirt's 'Jo-La The Explo-Red' stormed past Pink in the first game of Week Four action, and Shawna Hamon saved the season for the intrepid eight seeds with a game-tying goal with just 0:20 to play in regulation in game two, but it took Alex 'Thanos' Giummo just SIX seconds of OT play to sink Red out of the playoff picture and move Sand on to the Final. So, it will be another clash of the top two seeds, as Sand takes on Black with the Wing League 2026 Cup on the line this Sunday...

Captain Kalen Hunter's 'Squidward Kalenmari, Inc.' remained undefeated through three weeks of playoff play, and as there are no ties in playoff hockey, that can only mean that the terrific two seeds are on to the Wing League 2026 Final. Pat Gladstone paced the 3-1 win over their rivals, earning Black a bye, while Red, Pink, and Sand engage in a ménage de la mort this Sunday to produce one final challenger...

If you discount empty-netters, none of the games on the Week Two slate were decided by more than one goal. Everything is tightening up, and with the first upset of this postseason also in the books, no team is safe from the specter of loss...

The first week of SDFHL Wing League 2026 playoff action went completely 'by the numbers', with every top seed topping their bottom seed opponent. It is actually rather rare for the first round to pass without so much as an OT/SO scare, or at least a minor upset, but the 'expected' Week One results set up what should be some great Week Two matches...
